What Is The IELTS?
IELTS or International English Language Testing System is a global examination program that tries to determine the level of the English language proficiency you are currently at, also it serves as a testament of the English language knowledge you have when you are trying to apply for a study program, a job, or and Immigration program. The IELTS test is recognized worldwide by over nine thousand organizations, there are more than a thousand test centers in more than a hundred and forty countries, which makes it universally available to everyone who aims to take it.
The IELTS test comprises four main sections: Writing, Listening, Reading, and Speaking.
The IELTS score range is between 1-9 in each section, and It is worth mentioning that if you are getting the IELTS test for educational purpose, you need to get the Academic version of the test and not the General one which is recommended for the next two reason to get the IETLS test.

| 7 | Good user | The test taker has operational command of the language, though with occasional inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings in some situations. They generally handle complex language well and understand detailed reasoning. |
| 6 | Competent user | The test taker has an effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriate usage and misunderstandings. They can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations. |
| 5 | Modest user | The test taker has a partial command of the language and copes with overall meaning in most situations, although they are likely to make many mistakes. They should be able to handle basic communication in their own field. |
| 4 | Limited user | The test taker’s basic competence is limited to familiar situations. They frequently show problems in understanding and expression. They are not able to use complex language. |
| 3 | Extremely limited user | The test taker conveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. There are frequent breakdowns in communication. |
| 2 | Intermittent user | The test taker has great difficulty understanding spoken and written English. |
| 1 | Non-user | The test taker has no ability to use the language except a few isolated words. |
| 0 | Did not attempt the test | The test taker did not answer the questions. |
The different types of IELTS
There are two types of IELTS for you to choose from:
Academic: Students usually go for this version of the test when they are planning to study in an English-speaking University, or in an educational program delivered in English.
General Training: This is kind of an all-purpose version of the test, students would go for this version, if they are looking to study a diploma or an under-degree programs, if they are immigrating to an English-speaking country, or if they are applying for a position with English proficiency, is a requirement.
There is a new type of the IELTS test which is specifically related to the UK Visa application, it is called the IELTS Life Skills test, students who are applying for the UK immigration visa would go for this test instead of the previous two.

Study
Many if not all education universities and programs, which teaches mainly in English, demands that all the applicants take the IELTS test and get a certain score which is determined according to the needs, the popularity, or the level of the program in question.
If this is the purpose, you are trying to get the IETLS test for, it is recommended that you go for the Academic version of the test as most education organizations only accepts the Academic IELTS score from its applicants.
Work
It has become an essential thing to have English in your language portfolio when you apply for a job, in almost every region of the world, English proficiency has become a requirement for accepting applicant into all the various fields of the professional world, and one of the best way of proving that proficiency is have an IELTS certificate, and in this case having a band 7+ IELTS score will give you an edge, and you’ll certainly stand out from the crowd.
For example, if you’re planning on working in the UK you’re required to have a minimum score of 6.5 in each section to have a competing chance while looking for a job opportunity.
Immigration
When thinking of moving to a different country one of the first things you think about is the language of that country, and so if you’re thinking of moving to an English speaking country most definitely you’ll be asked to prove your English language proficiency by having an IELTS certificate, in this case the score depends on the destination you are going for, for example if you’re thinking of applying for the Canadian Express Entry program, not only you’ll be required to have a minimum score of 5 in every section, you’ll gain crucial extra points by scoring a higher score in each section.
